Drustan mab Necthana of the Cullach Gorrym is the Cruarch (King) of Alba. He is married to Ysandre de la Courcel.

Biography[]

Drustan is lame in one leg, but still a skilled fighter. His blue woad tattoos on his face and arms are evidence of his victories.

In Kushiel's Dart[]

Drustan was to be the heir to the Cruarch and traveled to Terre d'Ange along with the current Cruarch--Drustan's uncle--and his family. There, he met Ysandre. Though he only spoke broken Caerdicci and she only spoke broken Cruithne, they fell in love with the passion of young people.

When Maelcon the Usurper took over his father's rule, Drustan and his family sought refuge among the Dalriada on the west coast of Alba. It was there that Quintilius Rousse--led by Hyacinthe's dromonde and accompanied by Phèdre nó Delaunay de Montrève—found him. With the help of the Dalriada, Drustan won his throne from Maelcon. During the battle, his sister Moiread was killed. After the battle, he tries, convicts, and executes his aunt Foclaidha.

Afterwards, Drustan goes with the D'Angelines and Dalriada to Terre D'Ange to help defend the country from the invading Skaldi. While they are at sea, one of Drustan's men fishes an eel from the sea, having not heard Drustan's command not to do that very thing before they set sail. Because of this, the Master of the Straits confronts them and tricks them into landing on the shores of the Third Sister. Once there, the Master of the Straits gives them a riddle, saying that the one who best solves it will become his successor. Eventually Hyacinthe solves the riddle and becomes the successor to the Master of the Straits. Drustan recognises his sacrifice and is grateful for it.

In Kushiel's Chosen[]

Drustan is not a major character in the novel, but is seen at the end during the fete that recognises Phèdre and her companions' achievements.

In Kushiel's Avatar[]

In Kushiel's Scion[]

In Kushiel's Justice[]

In Kushiel's Mercy[]

Drustan was in the City of Elua during Carthage's "marvel," and thus fell under the spell of the ghafrid-gebla. During this time, he returns to Alba, thus temporarly breaking the spell and restoring his memories. He gathers Alban troops to bring to Terre d'Ange, but as soon as he returns to Terre d'Ange, the spell reasserts itself. After the spell is broken, he berates himself for not realising that he had been under a spell and that it was broken when he left D'Angeline soil.
