Jehanne de la Courcel nó Cereus was the second wife of King Daniel de la Courcel of Terre d'Ange and the mother of Princess Desirée de la Courcel. In her time at Cereus House she was considered among the greatest and most sought-after adepts. As an adept, she met King Daniel when he was deeply mourning the death of his first wife Seraphine, and her beauty helped assuage his grief. He later married Jehanne, though still mourning his first wife, and out of respect for her oaths to Namaah allowed her to continue her profession with the promise that when she was ready to light a candle to Eisheth, she would become monogamous with him for the sake of the royal bloodline.

When she befriends Moirin mac Fainche, she is caught in this transition, still indulging in a tempestuous love affair with a former patron, the d’Angeline scholar and physician Raphael de Mereliot. Through Moirin's friendship she is able to settle her heart and devote herself to the love she has for King Daniel.

Jehanne dies in childbirth while Moirin is traveling amoungst the Ch'in, leaving her only daughter, Desirée de la Courcel, behind.
