Summary[]
Phèdre and Joscelin continue their flight through the forests of Skaldia, back towards Terre d'Ange. Phèdre learns how to survive in the cold and harsh landscape. They attempt to avoid all of the steadings on the route in order not to draw attention. They know that Selig is after them.
At one point, however, they are chased down by members of the Skaldi, including one from Gunter's steading. Phèdre kills Gunter's man in self-defence. She is nearly killed by another before Joscelin throws his sword in an effort to protect her. When the Skaldi are defeated, they take what they can and continue.
